10 Things Every Blogging Office Needs

Being a professional blogger isn’t as simple as waking up one morning and stating, “I am a blogger, look out world!” Like any other discipline or endeavour, being a successful blogger means that you have to take the job seriously. That means working with dedication, planning and forethought. Having the right tools is an essential part of being a blogger, as you need the right tools in order to get the job done.

1. Computer or Laptop: There is no doubt one of the key tools of the modern journalist and the pro blogger is the computer. After all, the computer has become the informational link to the world. Blogging is all about information and staying current with what is happening in the world around us. This means that your computer is an essential tool in your blogging toolkit. While it is not necessary to have a top of the line gaming computer, you should have one that can get the job done or you will lose hours and hours on productivity. Making sure that you have a quality anti-virus program and firewall might be savvy addition as well.

2. Top-Notch Monitor: A reasonably large high quality monitor is an essential tool not just for bloggers, but also for anyone spending a lot of time at the computer. Eyestrain can greatly impair your productivity and make working nothing short of unpleasant. Spending a little extra money for a quality monitor is a savvy move.

3. Broadband Access: It should come as no surprise that access to a broadband connection is essential for blogging. While some people do still use dial-up Internet, you will experience major setbacks if you don’t have access to a fast connection. If you are using a laptop computer, be sure that you have a 3G dongle device for your mobile broadband access.
4. The Smartphone: A good smartphone is an absolute essential for the blogger. This is particularly true if you have one with a good deal of functionality and apps. A smartphone can function something like a modern Swiss army knife and may include GPS, recording capability, note taking capability, as well as essential features such as a camera and video capability. Also a smartphone allows you to connect to the Internet whenever you like from virtually wherever you like. This can prove invaluable for any number of important reasons. Of course, your trusted smartphone also functions as a phone too! All of these factors combine to make the smartphone a simply essential tool.

5. The Notebook or Notepad: Sure a notebook or notepad might be a bit “old school,” but you never have to worry about the battery on your notepad running out! This makes the time honoured, battled tested notepad something of a practical real world essential. It is something that you should not be without for quickly jotting down ideas on good old-fashioned paper.

6. Pens, Pens and More Pens: Pens are always a must for the blogger. Not all note taking is digital... at least not yet.

6. A Good Desk: Having a good desk might seem like a no-brainer, but if you are going to be spending hours upon hours writing, you need to keep the importance of a good desk in mind. A good desk will also help keep you organised and enhance your productivity.

7. The Chair: A comfortable chair, one that you can spend hours in, is probably even more important than having a good desk. After all, back problems will quickly end your workday.
9. A Bookcase: You never know when you might want to include a reference to a book in your blogging endeavours. A bookcase is important for staying organised. Don’t skip this inexpensive item that is essential for keeping books in order.

10. A Quality Keyboard: Lots of blogging means lots of typing. This makes an investment in a comfortable keyboard a must. Don’t just assume that the keyboard you received with your computer is adequate.

Add 125x125 Ad Slots To Your Blogger/BlogSpot Blog

Presently 125x125 ad-spots are the most famous ad dimensions in the blogosphere. For both publishers and advertisers these dimensions are perfect to display text & pictures attractively and at the same time these ads do not interfere much with the blog's content.
So if you are too planning to sell some place on your blog with these 125x125 ad spots, then follow these simple instructions:
Although many bloggers place and control these ad-spots through CSS but I am using simple HTML tables, so as to keep the process simple and so that you can easily customize it later.

STEP 1:
Log in to Blogger, go to "Layout", and click on "Add a Gadget" -> select it as "HTML/JavaScript".
Paste this code into the HTML box:

STEP 2:
Save the widget.

STEP 3:
As soon as an advertiser approaches you, replace the links in RED in the code above with the new ads.

TIP: Instead of showing all 4 banners as "Advertise Here", it is better to use 2 or 3 of them to show any affiliate ads and keep the last one as "Advertise Here" banner.

You may use any of these "Advertise Here" banners:

Add Google "Plus One" Button on Blogger

Add Google Plus One ( +1 ) Button on Blogger

Google has released an alternative to the Facebook and Twitter Sharing buttons named +1.If you like something that you find on the web, you can hit the +1 button, and your +1's will help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search. This tutorial will guide you on adding the same to your Blogger Blog.

1. If you are already using the official Blogger Sharing buttons, you should already be seeing the +1 buttons on your blog. If it is not, then go to that tutorial, and you will get the answer to how you can fix it.

2. No I don’t want to add those Blogger Sharing buttons, but would love to add the +1 button somehow. If that’s the case, then read on..

3. Go to Blogger Dashboard > Design > Edit HTML and click on the button which says “Expand widget Templates”. Look for and immediately above that paste

4. Now look for and immediately below that paste

<div>

<g:plusone size="standard" expr:href="data:post.url"/>
</div>

5. Save the template, and you should see the Google +1 buttons on your blogger blog.

For webmasters, Google has added a link where you can directly go and grab the button in couple of seconds.
The reason why we mentioned the above code is for English version is, +1 button is available is 44 different languages. To get the particular language based +1 button Google has added small additional code to script like below,
For non-webmasters, Google started rolling out +1 button for English-language searches on Google.com. If you want to +1 search results and search ads earlier, you can opt in through Google’s experimental search site. To see recommendations from your friends and contacts in Google search, make sure you’re signed into your Google Account.
Google has added +1 button mainly to share the content you read will be suggested to your friend who is connected through Google Account. +1 is as simple on the rest of the web as it is on Google search.
With a single click you can recommend that anything you found interesting to friends, contacts and the rest of the world. The next time your connections search, they could see your +1’s directly in their search results, helping them find your recommendations when they’re most useful.
Ok! That’s it. You have a +1 button with you now. Help Google is social space as they have already failed with Orkut and Google Buzz!

Floating " Top of Page" Icon Widget

Some blogs and webpages have obnoxiously long pages that go on forever... and that's where this widget comes in handy. As you can see, there is a small floating arrow at the bottom-right of this page. It always maintains the same position. Scroll down a little in your template, then if you click on it, it will take you to the very top of the page.

Why it's a good thing?

  • Saves your visitors from an unnecessary hassle of scrolling up.
  • The icon does not interfere with your content.
  • You can use your own image in order to blend in with your own blog.

    Change the Title Tags in Blogger for More Search Engine Traffic

    LEARN HOW !!!

    By default Blogger displays the blog title first, followed by the name of the post. As you might notice this is not good when it comes to SEO . It's important for the name of the post to come before the name of your blog, especially when it comes to google search results. Learn how to make your post title show up first so that you can reel in more traffic from the search engines.

    Why Change the Titles?

    It's quite important to have the Post Title + Blog Title arranged accordingly because this is how you would want your blog to be displayed on google's search results. This way more people will click on your link when searching google because the post title is more relevant than your post name.
    Example Google Search Results:
    You are most likely to click on the bottom image when searching google for the keywords "image reflection generator". The reason being is that your mind reads text from left to right. So it makes sense to have the more important title on the left.

    How to Change the Titles:

    1. Go to Layout>edit HTML in your Blogger dashboard.
    2. Search for this tag:
<data:blog.pageTitle/>

    3. Replace this tag with the following code:
     <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'>
<data:blog.title/>
<b:else/>
<data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/>
</b:if>

    1. Save your template and you should see the results in your web browser as depicted in the images below.
    2. It may take a few days for the changes to show up on the google search results. I guarantee you that you will start receiving more traffic from google once you are re-indexed!

    Blogger Tag Cloud Widget by Categories / Labels

    Blogger Tag Cloud Widget by Categories / Labels

    This widget is perfect for blogspot users who desire a simple tag cloud for their Categories. The Labels Cloud can easily be implemented within the sidebar of your blog and will match your template wonderfully.

    Steps for Implementation

    Step 1: Back it Up
    Always make sure to back up your Blogger Template before doing anything else!

    Step 2: The Labels Gadget

    Make sure that you have the Labels Page Element installed. If you haven't already...
    1. Go to Layout >Page Elements .
    2. Click "Add a Gadget" and then add the "Labels" gadget.
    Step 3: Locating the "Old Code"
    1. Now go to Layout >Edit HTML
    2. Make sure that the "Expand Widgets Template" box is unchecked.
    3. Now we need to search for the code that looks like this.
    <b:widget id='Label1' locked='false' title='Tags' type='Label'/>

    Your code may look a little different. So try using your browser's search tool to find type='Label'.
    Step 4: Replacing the "Old Code" with the "New Code"
    1. Once you've located type='Label', remove the whole line of code that looks just like the code mentioned in part 3 of step 3.
    2. Replace this code that you've just deleted with the code below:
    /*
    Distributed by John Smith at WidgetsForFree.blogspot.com
    */ <b:widget id='Label1' locked='false' title='Tags' type='Label'>
    <b:includable id='main'>
    <b:if cond='data:title'>

<data:title/>

    </b:if>

    }
    }
