The actor was found out when he was arrested after being caught with Divine Brown in the back of a car. He was given 2 years of probation for the offense and really upset his then-girlfriend Elizebeth Hurley. The Apology: On Air Hugh didn't waste any time talking about his transgressions. He opened up about the incident on lots of talk shows, and said on Larry King Live: "I could accept some of the things that people have explained, 'stress,' 'pressure,' 'loneliness' -- that that was the reason. But that would be false. In the end you have to come clean and say 'I did something dishonorable, shabby and goatish." |

12. Christian Bale
Christian Bale: Sorry for Tirade The Fail: Christian Bale is known for having a hot head, and he went off on his co-stars and director on the set of Terminator 4 in July 2008. The incident apparently occurred right around the time he was arrested for assaulting his mother and sister. Charges against him were later dropped. The Apology: On the Radio "It's been a miserable week for me. Listen, I know I have a potty mouth; everybody knows this now. The thing that I really want to stress is I have no confusion whatsoever. I was out of order beyond belief. I was way out of order. I acted like a punk. I regret that. There is nobody that has heard that tape that is hit harder by it than me. I make no excuses for it. It is inexcusable." John Mayer: Sorry for Sexual, Racial Remarks The Fail: John Mayer usually pushes the limits in his interviews, but his 2010 comments in Playboy crossed the line. His main offenses: He called ex Jessica Simpson "sexual napalm" and used the "N" word multiple times. The Apology: On Twitter and Onstage The singer reached out to his Twitter followers: "Re: using the 'N' word in an interview, I am sorry," he Tweeted. "I should have never said the word and I will never say it again." And, later that week during a Nashville concert he stopped and said: “In the quest to be clever I completely forgot about the people that I love and the people that love me,” Mayer said. “I went, as I have begun to do, into a wormhole of selfishness and greed and arrogance.” |

He later pleaded guilty to a count of felony assault and the restraining order against him was just lifted this year. The Apology: 2-Minute Video Clip Chris released an apology video five months after the domestic violence incident, and explained that he hadn't talked about it yet at the advice of his lawyer. He said in the clip: “I have let a lot of people down and I realize that and no one is more disappointed in me than I am. As many of you know, I grew up in a home where there was domestic violence and I saw firsthand what uncontrolled rage can do.” |
The Fail: David Letterman announced on-air in October 2009 that he'd been the victim of an extortion attempt -- a blackmailer threatened to expose the talk show host's sexual encounters with female staffers. Sooner than later, it was revealed the blackmailer was the former boyfriend of a CBS staff member named Stephanie Birkitt. Sources revealed she was the one who'd had an affair with Letterman. The Apology: Speech to Staffers, Wife On His Show He apologized to his staff and wife Regina on his own show. "She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it. 4. Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson: Sorry for Ranting The Major Fails: Where do we begin? Mel's been ranting and raving for years. He made sexist/racist remarks to cops when he was busted for a DUI in 2006, then was publicly shamed again in 2010 for allegedly saying some awful, awful things to his baby mama Oksana Grigorieva -- though he didn't publicly say sorry that time. The Apology: Written Statement for DUI "There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologize specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI charge. I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena. The Apology: People Interview "My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with [photographer] Annie [Leibovitz]. I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed." |
Arnold Schwarzenegger: Sorry for the Love Child The Major Fail: Actor-turned-Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger shocked the world in May 2011 when the LA Times revealed the reason he and wife Maria Shriver were divorcing after 25 years. Turns out he had fathered a love child with a household staffer 10 years prior, and told Maria about his transgressions after leaving office. She promptly packed her things. The Apology: Written Statement"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused.
